Little Cabin in the Woods

For our 3 day weekend, we headed back up to Nannie and Papa's cabin. The forecast looked a little iffy but we hit the jack pot.

On the way up the mountain, we made a picturesque potty stop. Check out that beautiful blue sky!

It rained all night which made it a perfect chilly albeit early (5 am) morning for hot cocoa and playdoh.

By mid-day, the sky was clearing and we headed farther up the mountain into Big Bear to do a little sledding. The boys took a short winters nap on the way.

Yet another adorable Musical Theater Production. This time it was Peter Pan and Logan was Smee.

Caden enjoyed the show immensely.

Good Clean Brotherly Fun

What a great way to spend a dark rainy morning...wrapped up in the basket of laundry that was waiting to be folded and reading a comic book.

Yee Haw!!

The annual Mother/Son dance was this weekend at Logan's school. With a western theme, we met up at Hamburger Factory for dinner. Luckily they have a back room to help contain our wild and crazy boys.

The dance was full of fun and games...Logan particularly liked the games since you win CANDY!! (his pockets were filled with wrappers by the end of the evening)

S.E.A.L. school

Logan's cub scout den had an amazing opportunity to tour the S.E.A.L. training center on Coronado Island. They started in the briefing room where they learned about the history of SEALs and what they do today along with some of the details of their training. I learned that I would NEVER make it as a SEAL (for so many reasons!) since one of their training requirements is to stay awake for an entire week...

Being SEALs, boats make up a good part of their training. Each of those boats weighs 250 lbs. TEAMWORK!!

Once down to the beach, Officer Garnett (a former cub scout and now Bear Den leader for his son's den) showed the boys how to climb a rope.

Then it was off to the obstacle course, wow, this looks impossible!! Next was a uniform inspection and some pointers on a proper salute and handshake.

We finished the tour with a good dose of reality. Officer Garnett pointed out the name of Petty Officer Michael Anthony Monsoor, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously when he threw himself on a grenade saving 8 other men. He made it very clear to the boys that going to war was serious business with considerable consequences. It was a powerful way to put this all in perspective.
