A Family on a Mission...All Aboard!

Excitement was running high for our train trip to San Juan Capistrano.
What else do you read while on a train...a train book!
I fell in love with Capistrano! The historic district was along the oldest residential street in California where the homes are transformed to adorable boutiques and cafes.
We stopped for lunch across from the mission...Caden ate the typical kids meal, steamed artichoke with pesto mayonnaise.
At the mission we panned for gold...I kept telling the boys to keep hunting for a decent pair of earrings. Too bad it was pyrite!
The Mission grounds are gorgeous!
This is a noteworthy pic...Capistrano was the birthplace of California wines. The missionaries brought grapevines over from Europe and planted them on these coastal hills. CHEERS to those Padres!
Yes, that is Caden and Shawn running through the ruins of the original cathedral that collapsed in a Earthquake nearly 200 years ago.
Waiting for the train home...
But first, a quick bite to eat, in a cafe that was once a general store and a post office that was built in the late 1700s. Very cool
ALL ABOARD!!

This looks like SUCH a fun day. I used to love this summer trip on the amtrack up to the mission. My Mom took me and I looked forward to it every year. I really want to take Akira and Clara Shei but it's harder when you aren't starting from San Diego. We'll have to see how I manage it but now you have reinspired me to try. Happy Day! xo - Kirsti
