Redefining Sick and Tired

This Van Pelt house has been hit by viruses, bacterium, and everything else that could cause illness. It started with a cold...actually Caden was sick back around Christmas, the return of that winter sickness that seems to seek out Caden. He was better for about 5 days, then the green snot reappeared. But I thought it was under control. Of course, that means no preschool, playdates, storytime...just me and the boy all week. Then next thing you know, the cough is back and I'm sick too. Shawn, by the way, is getting ready to run a half-marathon, so he of course doesn't want to get sick. Fast forward to last Friday...I have no voice and starting to get that chapped nose thing from mean kleenex. Shawn is getting sick too but seems to be keeping it under control. Caden is still coughing and smearing snot all over the place but yet Logan seems to escape all this. So Shawn runs his race, we cheer him on (me, without a voice) and that evening Shawn decides to call in sick Monday because his cold has taken hold of his lungs and was not about to let go without a fight. So the final plans on Sunday night were a) send Logan to school b) get everybody else in to see the Doc. Easy, right? ha-HA (said by an evil cartoon character in a dark cape) Four a.m., I awake to the sound of Logan in the bathroom...normally not a big deal but this didn't sound right. You know, those Mom-spidey senses. SURPRISE! Logan lost his sushi rolls all over the floor, bathtub, shower curtain...pretty much everywhere EXCEPT the toilet. Oh, and the surprises don't stop there. Back in his room is the first act on the bed and floor and then we discovered the Overture that happened while he was still asleep, all over his pillows and between his bed and the wall. I'll spare you anymore details, just let me say he had an encore too and again managed to miss the toilet. And THEN, it started to work its way thru the other end and managed to make yet another mess. TMI, I know, I know!!!
So what's the score now... 4 out of 4 down! UGH! Got Caden in to the pediatrician to discover he had a double ear infection (poor little guy!), Shawn was diagnosed with some form of infection, bronchitis/pneumonia...I guess it doesn't really matter. Antibiotic to the rescue!
And here we are on Wednesday... Caden threw up last night and followed that up with a few explosions out the other end this morning. I guess Logan's stomach thing wasn't something he ate but an actual bug. GREAT! So glad we are all so good at sharing. Now the monkey is sleeping, he was up at 4:30...just awake...probably with a little tummy trouble but not really recognizing it. Oh, so that means I've been up since 4:30 too, hence the title of this post.

GULP

This is a pic from Melissa and Ryan's wedding in April 2008. Caden was looking at it the other night. The conversation went something like this...
Caden: Where am I?
Me: You weren't born yet.
Caden: Why? (this is the standard response)
Me: You are in my belly, see
Caden: Did you eat me?

Not Tired, Not Hungry

LEGO - A Four Letter Word in my house

This is what my dining room table has looked like since Christmas...Logan received a toy store inventory of Legos and when asked what he wanted to buy with one of his gift cards he responded with MORE LEGOS...is there NO LIMIT??

DIY Babysitter

OK, here is the situation...Caden raced into the house and thought it would be funny to hide behind the door. (he could play hide and go seek for days) but something didn't go as planned. When I closed the door, this is what I found, Caden's shirt was stuck in the door...he couldn't go ANYWHERE! Might need to recreate this next time I want to take a shower!

Disneyland is CLOSED?? seriously?!?

You may remember we had a LOT of rain around Christmas this year, so when we had a break in those downpours it was time to get out and enjoy our vacation. Unfortunately, this thought wasn't an original one. We headed to Disneyland to discover it closed...TOO MANY MOUSEKETEERS in the Magic Kingdom, whoever heard of such a thing? So off to California Adventure we go...
Love that Toy Story Ride...Caden was thrilled to see all his favorite characters.
I think Cade rode this carousel at least a half dozen times. Even with the crowds, the line wasn't bad at all. In fact, Logan rode California Screamin' 3 times and never lost his lunch!
Caden rode this slide at least 10 times (should I be worried about this repetitive behavior?) WWWEEEEE!
We ended the night at elecTRONica...
Electric Hula Hoops! Glowing Ice Cubes
Even with record crowds, we managed a fun filled day!

He feels the need...

.....the need for speed! Caden discovered the joy of being out on the open road and just can't get enough. And with his trike, he discovered the joy of free wheeling down a hill, going just as fast as he can until he runs off the path into the grass. Over and over and over again!

Festive Family Fun with lots of food and dogs too

Santa was here!

Our Christmas morning started around 6 am...I heard Logan jet out of bed and run down the hallway, checking to see if Santa had really stopped at our house. Next thing I know, Logan is at my bedside, saying ever so sweetly, "Merry Christmas Mom and Dad". And so starts the day...Caden woke up moments later, but he's still in his crib, so Shawn set him free and I snapped this pic above, the excitement about to explode from his being. Digging into stockings and the gifts Santa left was their first task.
Caden had a Toy Story Ornament in his stocking that immediately went on the tree...Can you see the large penguin and purple cow on the tree? Anything Caden found with a loop went on the tree...he got the hang of decorating pretty quick. Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Kelly joined us for Christmas breakfast, out traditional Bagels, Loxs, Eggs and Bacon. More gifts to open, more fun to be had.

They grow up so fast
